Our journey and Net-Zero actions

We have been leading the industry forward towards a greener future since 2019, when we were the first business in our sector to achieve Carbon Neutral Accreditation. As part of this early work, we rolled out recycling and landfill diversion across all branches, upgraded our fleet to EURO 6, and transitioned to a fleet of electric or hybrid company cars.
In October 2021, we co-signed the “Net Zero Carbon Pledge for the Events Industry”. This means that we are committed to reducing event-related greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030 and will achieve Net-Zero by 2050.

In 2023, we developed the business case for a dedicated sustainability lead, laying the groundwork for deeper sustainability improvements and demonstrating our commitment to achieve our Net-Zero target.

In 2024, we appointed a sustainability specialist to work on shaping and delivering our journey to Net-Zero. Over the past 12 months, we’ve taken bold, measurable steps to start this long-term journey.

From building a robust, auditable carbon reporting system, using real-time data, to investing in sustainable transport and community value. We have embedded Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into everything we do.

With expert leadership, third-party verification, and a clear roadmap to be Net-Zero by 2050, we’re focused on real carbon reduction not just offsetting, putting Field and Lawn in a position of strength and authority in our industry. Our approach is science-based, transparent, and built to drive lasting positive impact across our operations our supply chain.
This is sustainability with substance and we are ready to share our roadmap with you and invite our customers to come on the Net-Zero journey with us…

Our Net Zero Roadmap

Laying the groundwork for a lower-carbon, more efficient future.

Net zero

Our journey to Net-Zero is ambitious, science-based, and built on action, not aspiration. Its forward focused, SMART and everyone in the business is onboard.  We’ve developed a clear, data-driven roadmap to eliminate carbon emissions across our operations by 2050, with a bold interim target to cut emissions by 50% by 2030.

This is will be evidenced by robust carbon accounting and external verification, with the foundations for this already in place. We are well on our way, having already established and externally audited carbon baseline, across Scopes 1, 2, and 3 using SmartSheet, our Sustainability Reporting System.

We’ve moved beyond carbon offsetting to focus on real reductions, prioritising the most impactful areas first, from transport and energy to supply chain collaboration. With the support of Jamie Connolly, our dedicated sustainability specialist and certified ISO 14064 verifier, we have aligned our reduction strategy with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and the Science Based Targets initiative. This is our decarbonisation blueprint: clear, measurable, and already in motion towards a greener future.

Clear, Auditable and Robust Carbon Reporting

Accurate and auditable carbon reporting is the foundation of our sustainability strategy. If you can’t measure it, you can’t improve it. We’ve invested in SmartSheet, our real-time Sustainability Reporting System (SRS), to give us total carbon visibility across our operations.

The first step in our carbon reporting journey was to identify and assess our full carbon inventory, covering both direct and indirect emissions. Using primary usage data and spend-based analysis, our SRS captures Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions and categorises them in line with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHGp). Working in line with the GHGp framework, we have been able to categorise our carbon inventory into three different scopes of activities: scope 1, scope 2 and scope 3, thus creating our first baseline reporting year (2024).

This provides us with a reliable, auditable carbon footprint, forming the baseline from which we will measure progress year on year. It’s a powerful tool that enables us to track, analyse, and act on emissions data, driving meaningful reductions and supporting our journey to Net-Zero. Our carbon footprint and related data collection process have been audited by our external, third-party verifier and will continue to do so on an annual basis.

In addition to our IS014001, ISO9001 and ISO45001 accreditation, we are also working towards ISO 14064-1 (quantification of emissions) to enable us robustly monitor and drive year on year reductions in our carbon emissions.

In the spirit of transparency and accountability, this work has enabled us, for the first time ever, to published our 2024 Baseline carbon emissions.

Our carbon reduction strategies

We know and understand every aspect of our carbon emissions, enabling us build initiatives to drive down our carbon footprint year on year. We have been able to identify that Scope 1 relates to 21% of our overall footprint, with scope 2, accounting for 0.63% and scope 3 (transport) accounting for 78% of our carbon emissions. That’s why our short-term focus is on driving down our scope 3 emissions.

Switching to HVO

HVO fuel is a renewable, fossil-free alternative to diesel that can reduce our fleet emissions by up to 90%. Our analysis has identified a projected 7.2% reduction in our total carbon footprint in moving to HVO fuel (2024 baseline).

HVO is a mature, low-risk fuel technology that is already widely approved by leading OEMs and requires no engine modifications or infrastructure changes, making it a flexible and scalable solution for our own fleet. Beyond emissions, HVO improves air quality by reducing Nox, particulate matter, carbon monoxide, and hydrocarbons, while offering enhanced engine performance, lower maintenance costs, and a longer shelf life compared to diesel.

Short-term carbon reduction strategies

Beyond transport (scope 3), which is our biggest area of opportunity, we’re actively reducing emissions across all areas of our operations. Here’s how:

Implemented  waste diversion from landfill through improved segregation, diverting 98% of waste from landfill

Transitioned to EV/Hybrid car fleet and installed XX charging points across our estate

introduced reusable stillages and recycled products to cut single-use plastic,

Reduced reliance on air conditioning through internal policy.

Lighting upgrades to energy efficient LED

Launched a sustainability champion initiative to drive behavioural change across the busine

 While Scope 2 emissions represent just 0.63% of our footprint, we’re driving this down by investing in;

• Long-term solutions including capital projects for solar power and ground source energy.
• Reviewing our energy supply with the aim of transitioning to 100% renewable
• We’ve also made significant progress transitioning to a hybrid and EV company car fleet

LCA

An ambitious Lifecycle Carbon Analysis (LCA)

We will work across our supply chain, working towards a LCA of our. This analysis will evaluate emissions from raw material sourcing, manufacturing, transport, installation, operation, and end-of-life disposal. By identifying key carbon hotspots, we can target reductions, select lower-impact materials, and collaborate with suppliers to adopt greener practices.

The outcome of this work will enable us to work with our customers and supply chain, over a long-term period to give us a clear, data-driven understanding of the carbon footprint across every stage of our operations. This will enable us to:

• Set measurable carbon reduction targets

• Improve customer choice based on environmental impact

• Develop more sustainable installation and removal processes

• Enhance transparency for clients seeking environmentally responsible partners

• Support our journey towards net zero by prioritising decarbonisation efforts where they matter most

Ultimately, the LCA will position us as a leader in sustainable delivery and help drive meaningful change across the industry. Want to be part of it? We are seeking a pilot project. Contact us to discuss the potential.
