Sustainable Christmas lights

Re-cycled, re-imagined and re-purposed. Meet ReLuminate

ReLuminate is a spectacular festive lighting product range that combines the latest and most advanced sustainable manufacturing technology, high performance, energy efficient LED lights and recycled, salvaged, re-purposed or post-use materials. This range will hit the headlines for all the right reasons, giving your display market leading sustainability credentials. It is a pioneering eco solution, with four guiding principles:

• Sustainable material selection
• Low impact production techniques
• Minimal energy consumption in use
• Circularity and material recovery post use

Recycled and sustainable materials

Greenpeace estimates that UK households discard around 90 billion plastic pieces every year. ReLuminate tackles this problem head on by taking PET plastic waste such as plastic bottles and transforming them into products and parts used in our festive lighting. The recycling process is fascinating and involves thoroughly cleaning the bottles, removing labels and caps. The bottles are then processed to create uniform, recycled PET (rPET) pellets to ensure strength and consistency. By using rPET material display manufacture can typically use around 50%-80% less aluminium.

rPET can be reprocessed multiple times, allowing festive lighting products to be re-cycled and re-purposed after the life of the display. Importantly, rPET retains the strength, flexibility, and weather resistance of virgin PET, making it ideal for both indoor and outdoor festive lighting applications. A range of colours can be achieved and due to the reduction in aluminium components it is lighter, cutting emissions in logistics.

Low impact production for sustainable Christmas lights

Here’s where the magic happens! The latest large format robotic, 3D printing and injection moulding production techniques are perfect for crafting intricate and decorative details. For high-volume shapes and decorations, injection moulding is more efficient. rPET is injected into a custom mould and cooled into a strong, lightweight frame — think stars, snowflakes, or festive motifs. This method requires less energy, reduces CO₂ emissions and diverts plastic waste from landfill.

To meet the demands of large-scale commercial installations, industrial-sized, large-format 3D printers are used. These are custom-engineered specifically for producing festive decorations. These advanced machines can print entire structures, such as towering snowflakes or star frames in a single piece or modular sections. By using rPET filament, these printers allow for complex, lightweight, and durable designs with minimal waste. Unlike traditional manufacturing that relies on multiple components and extensive tooling, this method streamlines production and reduces energy usage.

Minimal energy consumption. Brighter for longer with modern LED technology

All our festive lighting products use the latest generation of LED technology, representing a major leap forward in both performance and sustainability. Our lighting delivers exceptional brightness and uniform light distribution while consuming up to 90% less energy than traditional incandescent or halogen bulbs. These LEDs convert a significantly higher proportion of electrical energy into visible light. With lifespans exceeding 50,000 hours, LEDs drastically reduce maintenance and replacement needs. Meaning your displays are brighter and bolder, for longer.

Enhanced colour rendering and dimming capabilities through Twinkly Pro provide stunning animated lighting effects. State of the art remote or digital app control solutions also allow you greater display control through the ability to switch off displays exactly when required remotely, again saving energy. Our modern LEDs offer a dazzling visual appeal with a low environmental footprint.

Circularity and recycling. Giving Christmas lights a new lease of life

We develop a carefully considered plan for responsible disassembly, recycling, and material recovery for every scheme. Our first approach is always to carefully refurbish products to extend their lifecycle. We introduced our “Darker Nights” catalogue of refurbished, ex-display Christmas lights to give preloved and pre-enjoyed festive lighting products a new home! When a product reaches the end of its commercial life, it really isn’t the end.

The specialist manufacturing process means components are designed to be modular and re-cyclable, making them easier to break down and repurpose. Aluminium frames can be stripped and re-cycled, entering the manufacturing process in new forms. The rPET plastics, commonly used in 3D-printed elements, are cleaned, shredded, and converted back into reusable pellets ready for future designs.

Electrical wiring and LED components are collected in accordance with WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) regulations and sent to certified facilities where precious metals and usable components can be extracted. This approach not only diverts waste from landfill but supports a circular economy, reducing the environmental footprint of each lighting scheme. It’s our way of ensuring that the joy and wonder of festive displays can shine on for years to come.
