Temporary Buildings Frequently Asked Questions

Our FAQ PAGE guide will help you navigate through some of the common questions we have answered for past customers.

Temporary buildings are structures that consist of repeated sections or modules. These sections can be constructed at one location and then transferred to another, where they are put together to create temporary structures, making them a fast and efficient way of creating more space for any project or site.

Temporary buildings can be used for a whole host of applications, including warehousing, workshops, exhibition centres, showrooms, sports halls, and much more. We have even built a home for a T-REX using a temporary structure!

In general, planning permission for temporary buildings is needed if you intend on keeping your temporary building erected for more than 28 days.  Find out more here.

Temporary buildings benefit from fast installation and can built within as little as a single day, with a typical mid-size build taking three days.

Temporary buildings are pre-fabricated off site.  This means they can be made to measure to work in any space. The length of a temporary building ranges from 5m and is only limited by the space you have available. Width spans of up to 40m can be achieved.   In terms of height, sizes range from 2.5m up to 10m high.  There really is an option for every requirement.

Temporary buildings are highly durable, long-term buildings.  If erected and left in place, they can last for up to 50 years depending upon the location, type, care and use.  Or, if your requirement is shorter, they can be dismantled, re-located and sold.

All buildings installed by Field and Lawn are fully compliant on a generic and site-specific basis in relation to Eurocode BSEN1991. A temporary building is secure, with steel cladding, locking doors and the option to install CCTV and alarm systems.

Field & Lawn can provide a full turnkey solution for your building from HVAC to lighting, floor covering to roller shutter doors. We can eradicate the need of multiple quotes and invoices by project managing the installation from start to finish.

A temporary building can be installed on virtually any surface, slope or tight and constrained space.  They can even be designed and engineered to accommodate obstacles such as walls, steps and banking.  We have methods of installation for all types of ground surfaces, although by far the best surface is a concrete base. That said, we regularly install on tarmac car parks, hard core and even grass.  Temporary buildings can also be engineered using ballast weights for when the ground can’t be penetrated.

Approximately 6-8 weeks from the point of order. Installation times vary on size however; typically, it takes about 3-7 days to install on site. Renting or hiring a temporary building can significantly cut these timescales. Depending on stock availability, rental structures can be delivered in as little as 5 days.

We have a large portfolio of completed temporary building projects and encourage you to see one of the many buildings we have across the country. Your local Sales Manager can set up a visit to a building near you. Potential customers are usually surprised how permanent they find our buildings!

Yes, our temporary buildings can be supplied with 60mm steel coated polyurethane core sandwich panels with insulated roof options for maximum thermal performance.  We have even installed temporary refrigerated storage and can work with you to create a solution that is temperature controlled.

Our temporary buildings can easily be expanded or moved to another site with minimum fuss. For expanding businesses, due to the modular nature, we can seamlessly integrate new sections or remove sections should they no longer be required.

This depends upon the surface it is erected on. Sealing at the base is complicated on uneven or sloping ground. Water ingress is minimised by several sealing methods; such as flashing, but, to say a temporary building can be made 100% watertight, is optimistic unless it is installed in a pre-prepared raised concrete base.  A raised platform with ramp access is another solution we have provided to prevent water ingress.

Yes, it is possible to rent a temporary building.  If you are looking for a short-term warehouse or storage space, you can hire or rent the space you need. Then, if the building works for you, it can be either purchased, if you are pleased with its performance, or returned it to us after the rental period.

This will vary from different suppliers.  At Field and Lawn, the structure is covered for 36 months for faulty materials or workmanship.
