Your Guide to marquee flooring options

Types of marquee flooring

If your hiring a marquee, there is a good chance you will need to think about which type of flooring you need. There are lots of options and the best solution will depend on a number of factors such as, what you will be using the marquee for, the ground conditions and the level of finish required. Field and Lawn supply a number of integrated flooring options. This expert guide will take you through the options and provide you with guidance on which option is best suited to your event.

Interlocking ply flooring

Firstly, interlocking ply flooring is typically laid directly onto the ground to provide a stable base. This is sometimes called, direct lay flooring. This is the most cost effective and affordable flooring for level ground and as such, the direct lay floor is a popular choice for marquees on flat level sites. The finish provides a “floorboard” look, and is ideal for large spaces such as exhibition pavilions, like the example below from Southport Flower Show. This can be enhanced with the addition of specialist event carpet which we can supply and fit in a range of colours. In our experience, darker colours are best for high footfall areas.

Level Marquee Flooring

Secondly, a level flooring system will provide flat surface within your marquee by taking out a slope up to 600mm. This solution provides a robust, flat, level and solid surface. Cassette flooring can accommodate slopes of up to 600mm which is sufficient for most sloped or uneven sites. It creates an elevated flooring deck on adjustable supports, allowing the marquee to sit level.

This system delivers a safe, accessible, weather-resilient and highly polished finish. All our flooring options fully integrate with our premium clearspan marquees to provide a seamless and professional finish.

Matting and basic flooring options

If you simply want to protect the ground within the marquee, there are other options such as matting. While these don’t fully integrate with our temporary event structures, these solutions help to protect the ground. While they follow the natural contours of the ground, they’re better suited to short-term events, informal gatherings and back-of-house areas such as storage marquees.

When marquee flooring might not be required

Marquee flooring is not always required, there are a few specific applications where the ground conditions and the event type allow for a simpler setup. For example, if the marquee is installed on a carpark, additional flooring may not be required. If the event is short, informal or taking place on firm, level ground using the existing surface is often the most efficient option.

Marquee Carpets & floor coverings

Specialist event marquee carpet is a durable short-pile flooring used to create a clean, professional and visually polished finish inside marquees and temporary structures. Designed for corporate events and large hospitality spaces, it is durable, easy to install and available in a wide range of colours to match branding or themes. Unlike standard carpet, event carpet is engineered to cope with heavy footfall, fast install/derig times and uneven ground when laid over cassette or boarded floors.

It’s the final layer that transforms a marquee from a functional space into a premium, guest-ready environment. If you are hiring a marquee specifically for catering and food preparation, we can supply specialist catering flooring for your marquee.

Summary

To summarise, if you are looking for a quick and cost effective marquee flooring option and your site is relatively flat, direct lay flooring, which follows the gradient of the surface is probably your best option.  If your site is slightly sloped (up to 600mm) and you require a more premium and level option, a cassate floor on adjustable supports will provide a level base for your marquee.  using the existing floor is also an option if your site and event permits.
