two temporary buildings for welfare

enhancing back of house operations with temporary buildings

The RFU approached Field & Lawn when they required a robust and durable replacement for an event marquee that was used for staff check in and back of house welfare facilities.

At a Glance…

Who: Rugby Football Union

Size: 10m x 44m on a 2.5m eave & 10x 50m on a 2.5m eave.

Location: Twickenham

Sector: Temporary welfare

The Requirement…

The client required a durable structure that would be able to stand a period of 3-5 years to  provide a covered area to accommodate the staff check-in process and provide a welfare facility.

The facility needed to be connected to the site cabins to utilise the servicing hatches, secured to the existing substrate, and provide several entry/ exit points to assist with crowd management.

The Solutions…

Field & Lawn installed the two structures onto the existing substrate, using treated timber packing and a steel sub-base flooring system to create a seamless level surface. The temporary buildings were installed in a matter of days and fitted with steel cladding to the walls, anti-condensation lining to mitigate water ingress and a PVC roof.

Internally,  Olympia hard wearing carpet was selected to withstand the high footfall and to provide the required levels of durability. A total of twelve 2m x 2m double leaf glazed door units with either ramp or step access to provide entry and exit points around the structures, as well as a PVC partition to segregate a designated area for the cleaners.

The temporary welfare buildings were connected to the existing porta-cabins by welding PVC to the structure’s roofs and battening onto the porta-cabins.

A heated sock system was installed the full length of both structures to provide heating.

The Specification…

Frame: Aluminium clear-span structure with 4 channel aluminium extrusion beam, 5m bay lengths, 22-degree roof pitch, snow loading capacity of 75kg/m² and wind loading of 28 m/s.

Roof: Double skin inflatable roof system 650g/m² white PVC. An anti-condensation lining was installed onto the lower keder to prevent moisture.
