Valeting bay brings new efficiencies for car dealership

purpose built valeting bay

When Skoda Warrington approached Field and Lawn for additional covered space to carry out valeting and car detailing onsite, we knew just the solution! A purpose built industrial valeting bay, using the flexibility and speed that temporary buildings provide.

At a Glance…

Who: Skoda Warrington

Size: 8.5m x 6m on a 3m eave

Location: Warrington

Sector: Industrial Valeting Bay

The Requirement…

The client required a new covered building that would seamlessly slot into a small area of land to help staff detail and clean cars throughout the year.

The Solutions…

The structure was manufactured in a bespoke 8.5m x 6m size allowing the car dealership to maximise the space available on an already tight site.

To create a compartmentalised “wet” and “dry” side to the structure, an internal PVC dividing wall was installed to separate the bays.  This was a key detail that the client requested.  The structure is a cost-effective and quick alternative to a traditional building and it will stand the test of time.

The temporary valeting bay provides a great deal of flexibility. If there was ever a need to re-locate the structure, that would be possible. In addition to car valeting the structure could also provide overflow space for smart repairs.

The structure was fitted with 2x electric roller shutter doors and one pedestrian door. This enabled the team work independently and open/close doors as required when working on the vehicles.

The structure meets the relevant BS6399 and Eurocodes for wind and snow loading. They offer a quick, cost-effective, and flexible solution to create more efficient use of existing space.

The Specification…

Frame: Aluminium clear-span structure with 4 channel aluminium extrusion beam, 3m bay length, 22-degree roof pitch, snow loading capacity of 75kg/m2 and wind loading of 28 m/s.

Roof: Single skin PVC material roof 650g /m2, non-flammable, fully tensioned.

Walling: Single skin steel cladding.

Doors: 2no 3m x 2.5m electrically operated fast open roller shutter

Guttering: 12m (6m to each side) UPVC gutters to eaves of structure with downpipes

Temporary welfare building just the ticket for Twickenham

enhancing back of house operations with temporary buildings

The RFU approached Field & Lawn when they required a robust and durable replacement for an event marquee that was used for staff check in and back of house welfare facilities.

At a Glance…

Who: Rugby Football Union

Size: 10m x 44m on a 2.5m eave & 10x 50m on a 2.5m eave.

Location: Twickenham

Sector: Temporary welfare

The Requirement…

The client required a durable structure that would be able to stand a period of 3-5 years to  provide a covered area to accommodate the staff check-in process and provide a welfare facility.

The facility needed to be connected to the site cabins to utilise the servicing hatches, secured to the existing substrate, and provide several entry/ exit points to assist with crowd management.

The Solutions…

Field & Lawn installed the two structures onto the existing substrate, using treated timber packing and a steel sub-base flooring system to create a seamless level surface. The temporary buildings were installed in a matter of days and fitted with steel cladding to the walls, anti-condensation lining to mitigate water ingress and a PVC roof.

Internally,  Olympia hard wearing carpet was selected to withstand the high footfall and to provide the required levels of durability. A total of twelve 2m x 2m double leaf glazed door units with either ramp or step access to provide entry and exit points around the structures, as well as a PVC partition to segregate a designated area for the cleaners.

The temporary welfare buildings were connected to the existing porta-cabins by welding PVC to the structure’s roofs and battening onto the porta-cabins.

A heated sock system was installed the full length of both structures to provide heating.

The Specification…

Frame: Aluminium clear-span structure with 4 channel aluminium extrusion beam, 5m bay lengths, 22-degree roof pitch, snow loading capacity of 75kg/m² and wind loading of 28 m/s.

Roof: Double skin inflatable roof system 650g/m² white PVC. An anti-condensation lining was installed onto the lower keder to prevent moisture.

Walling: Single skin steel cladding.

Anchorage: Steel anchor pins driven into substrate.

Doors: 6no 2m x 2m double leaf glazed door unit with anti-panic bar with step / ramp access per structure.

Flooring: Steel sub-base flooring system with birch ply top sloped to site gradient.  Covering, Olympia hard wearing carpet.

Guttering: PVC material 650g /m² welded to the roof and fixed to the existing cabins to direct water runoff.
