A JOURNEY THROUGH CHRISTMAS

Fasten your sleigh belts, pop the Christmas playlist on and join us on a magical tour around some of our latest festive lighting schemes of 2025. With over 100 Christmas lighting schemes installed in 2025, we have been out and about visiting a selection of our recent projects. While we simply couldn’t visit them all, we did manage to stop our sleigh at some of our newest commercial and retail schemes and favourite town centre installations! Join us on a quick tour around the UK…

Starting off in Hereford, we were delighted to secure a brand new contract in 2025 for the Old Market Shopping Centre. The scheme included a bespoke cross street motif, 100m+ of icicle lighting and a corridor canopy of animated hanging stars. A real Christmas tree was installed and decorated with a picture perfect present box providing a wonderful family friendly photo point set against the stary night sky.

St. Stephens, Hull

Next up, another new contract at an incredible shopping destination in Hull for St. Stephens Shopping Centre. This glistening golden star themed scheme features 38 swags of light up stars, 11 animated warm white LED lit stars on the entrances and exits, 200m of icicle lighting across internal balustrades and a huge suspended hot air balloon feature. A 7m, freestanding star feature provided a dramatic entrance to the scheme.

We took inspiration from our Oxford Street display, installing the necessary infrastructure required to reduce the triple-height atrium and create an overhead sea of lights. Installation included the use of 750m of catenary wire, 75 eye bolts and a crew of 4 working overnight for 2 weeks.

Stepping outside with some town centre schemes

Over in Warrington, we provided a complete, city centre scheme with lamp post motifs, tree decorations. A large, commercial Christmas tree formed the focal point of the display and elegant decorations also lined the high street.

Christmas in Crewe

In Crewe, we provided a comprehensive scheme, with two 7m high pre-decorated, LED-lit cone trees and one 9m, UK grown, real Christmas tree.

Custom cross-street dressings with twenty starburst effect lights animated the scheme and lit up main shopping areas. 34 pole-mounts were also added to lamp posts. A large walkthrough bauble ground feature and two large pre-lit cone trees delighted the crowds and was a big hit for families and photos! This installation was completed over the course of 7 nights and culminated with a switch on event organised by Crewe Town Council, which featured live performances, Christmas markets, crafts and of course, letters to Santa.

Kingfisher Shopping Centre

We designed and installed an elegant, Reindeer inspired display at the Kingfisher Shopping centre in Redditch. Warm white lighting drapes lined the shopping malls with central atriums decorated with icicle lighting. Three large 3D illuminated Reindeer (up to 5m tall!) can be seen dashing through the air. To add even more fun, a large Christmas themed Panda feature surrounded by presents created a fun and interesting feature.

Large scale features for lincoln

Our Christmas lighting tour continues with a spotlight on Lincoln. Whether you’re shopping in Exchange Square, wandering along the Brayford Wharf or walking the cobbled streets to the top of Steep Hill, you’ll never be too far from one of our installations with this year’s city-wide scheme.

Featuring three large-scale displays, this year’s scheme was created in partnership with Lincoln BIG and was designed to connect different areas of the city, illuminating points of interest and providing a photo opportunity or three!

Wilmslow lighting tunnels

For ‘Wilmslow’s Way Better‘ (Wilmslow BID) we created an interactive addition to their scheme by bringing in six huge, 6m lighting tunnels, providing a fun photo opportunity for families to enjoy over the festive period. In addition, we also provided a 7.2m illuminated, life-like alpine Christmas tree to stand tall in the centre of the display.

Giving back to edinbrugh

We supported Edinburgh Children’s Hospital with a sparkling festive lighting display this year, including their outdoor Christmas tree, light up reindeer and three golden LED-lit rabbits – donated by our team to help brighten the season for patients, families and staff. We’re proud to support Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity and NHS Lothian on their mission to make this the most joyful Christmas yet for children and their families spending time in hospital this December.

A Rainbow river in Renfrewshire

We love this clever and contemporary lighting installation in Paisley. Over 13,000 people enjoyed the incredible Christmas switch on event and saw the amazing network of neon, which created a stunning ‘River of Light’ using LED rope lights, the river used 370m of neon lights and features colours of the rainbow including red, white, blue, purple, green and yellow, making a beautiful reflection in the river. We also installed over 2,000m of ice white lighting into trees and provided a range of festive lamp post motifs to decorate the high street for Renfrewshire Council in Scotland.

Field and Lawn are world famous for our central London Christmas lighting schemes with displays such as Bond Street, Oxford Street, King Cross, Covent Garden and The Strand. However, this year we wanted to shine a light on Seven Dials, some incredible new installations across the Central District Alliance and the immersive Culture Mile lighting trail. These create installations create pockets of festive charm, next to transport hubs, bars, shops and cafes. They are a great way of decorating smaller spaces, with high-impact, features that require minimal maintenance while delivering a real wow-factor festive aesthetic.

First up, Seven Dials is a historic West End junction where seven streets meet at a central monument, located between Covent Garden and Soho. It’s a lively destination known for its independent retail, cafe culture and close connection to London’s theatreland. We installed in the region of 150,000–155,000 warm white LED lights around the area in swagged curtains that enhanced the charm of the area.

The Culture MILE LIGHTING TRAIL

The lighting trail has 13 locations, strategically positioned next to iconic landmarks such as the Barbican Centre, Smithfield Market and Finsbury Circus Gardens. A route map and clever social media marketing from the Client made this trail a real destination maker. We provided everything large scale 3D features such as bells, baubles and Reindeer, to lamp post motifs, icicle lighting and tree dressing, wrapping and decoration. A complete end-to-end solution that looks simply stunning!

Central District Alliance

The central District Alliance is the Business Improvement District for Holborn, Clerkenwell, Farringdon, Bloomsbury and St Giles. A new scheme for 2025 kept things fresh and vibrant. As the collective voice of over 400 businesses, the brief was to create a scheme that worked across a large area. Ground features are perfect to achieve this. From stunning stars outside Shaftesbury Theatre to an elegant Sidara tree in High Holborn, coupled with tree decorations across high footfall areas. It really brought a large area together cohesively.

Conduit street, de beers and west one

If you’ve made it this far you deserve a Terry’s Chocolate Orange! We are nearly there with our tour, final stops coming up. Conduit Street, which connects with Bond Street saw some elegant cross street motifs installed. On Bond Street itself, which is home to some of the biggest and most recognisable brands in the UK, we worked with De Beers to elevate their shop frontage. We installed a stunning architectural lighting scheme to entice shoppers, creating a real presence. We also worked with West One, a shopping centre located off Oxford Street to provide a stunning illuminated entrance canopy.

Finally, something a little different!

We were approached by Leicester City Football Club to explore ways to bring the festive atmosphere to their festive fixtures at the King Power Stadium. They downloaded our brochure and got in touch about a completely bespoke activation. The arch is 3.15m wide and 4m high and was expertly manufactured in club colours, before being strategically placed outside the club megastore to drive festive sales with increased footfall. Exploring some of our 2024 festive lighting installations

Ready for a whistle stop tour?

With over 100 Christmas lighting schemes installed in 2024 we have been out and about visiting a selection of our recent projects. Here’s a closer look at what we have been up to…

Starting off in the North, we visited two installations on very rainy Thursday evening in Derby and Coalville. Coalville’s festive lighting scheme showcases the High Street and nearby landmarks. In the Memorial Square, a bespoke design takes centre stage with RGB colour changing wall-mounted banners, paired with pea lights. It beautifully illuminates the trees around the war memorial and clock tower. Seven lamp post columns, 22 wall mounted Christmas trees, and column lighting adds to the scheme.

Derby Town Centre

Over in Derby, the scheme highlights the city’s vibrant energy focused around the city centre and other shopping streets. The City Council offices have been decorated with column wraps and wall mounted trees. We also decorated a show stopping real Christmas tree next to the ice rink in the Market Square.

Christmas lamp post motifs, wall mounted trees and cross street lighting was also installed in high footfall areas like Sadlergate, The Strand and St. Peter’s Street with St. Werburgh’s Churchyard decorated with pea lights.

Scotland

In Scotland, we visited a brand new display for Dundee City Council. This scheme features an array of Christmas lighting products including cross street decorations, lamp post motifs and a programmable twinkly tree. It really did look spectacular.

In addition, the team also provided a range of festive lighting features and donated a magical Unicorn to the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People in Edinburgh. The scheme supports the Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity. The end result, a wonderful outdoor experience for children and their families to spread festive joy.

Heading down south

Heading down south, first stop in London was Motcomb Street where we installed an impressive array of glistening star motifs. We then traveled over to Bond Street where we installed one of the most unique and memorable schemes of 2024, brining a unique brand collaboration to life.

The two large gateways measure 4x10m and weigh in at 350kg each. We also installed four 5m diameter chandeliers at a staggering 750kg each. These were supported by twenty one 30m steel wires. An impressive feat of engineering.

In South Molton Street, a new display of seven beautifully lit trees welcomed shoppers. Continuing on to Bruton Street and Berkeley Square we provided cross street displays and decorated 16 large trees with drop lights.

Along the Strand we provided large scale cross street motifs and Villiers Street boasts nine eye-catching crossings. Outside the Clermont Hotel, we installed a Twinkly tree with bespoke programmed animations for the Festival of Kindness. Nearby, Leicester Square glows with its illuminated trees, creating a festive retreat and the perfect backdrop for the busy Christmas Market.

Ilford Town Centre

We also visited Ilford where we provided lamppost decorations, a walk through cone tree, and the iconic “I Love Ilford” sign. Additional highlights include three large trees and ground features that light up the heart of this community.

Shopping centre chrismas lighting

On the way back we also visited two shopping centres, calling in at Epsom and Fulham. Our shopping centre schemes are incredible. At Epsom, we created a bespoke display that showcased the architecture of the shopping centre with two large doves and light curtains. Voids were decorated with cluster lighting and leaf lighting. At Fulham, we provided 16 free standing Christmas trees, and around 110m of light curtains, hanging decorations and balustrade lighting.

AND THATS A WRAP!

We certainly packed a lot into the whistle stop tour, but we simply couldn’t visit every scheme we deliver! Chris Kitchin Appointed As Regional Director

A new role for chris kitchin

Field and Lawn are delighted to announce the promotion of Chris Kitchin to the role of Regional Director for the Runcorn branch. Chris steps into this leadership role as Andrew Lothian prepares for his well-deserved retirement at the end of February 2025.

About the appointment

This pivotal appointment follows an extensive and rigorous selection process involving interviews and competency-based assessments of candidates from across the events industry. Chris stood out for his exceptional vision, strategic business plan and demonstrated ability to drive growth and innovation within the branch.

Chris joined Field and Lawn in 2022 as a Senior Project Manager, bringing with him eight years of experience in the events industry. He has project managed numerous high-profile events, including mass participation races and international sporting tournaments. Notably, he played a key role in delivering projects for clients such as UEFA and the FA during the Women’s European Football Championships. His proven expertise makes him well-equipped to lead the Runcorn branch into its next chapter of success.

A SPECIAL THANKS TO ANDREW LOTHIAN

Andrew Lothian joined Field and Lawn as a rigger in Scotland in 1990. He has had an extraordinary career, progressing through the ranks. His deep operational knowledge and leadership have been instrumental in shaping the business, overseeing the growth of both the Northern and Southern branches, delivering complex projects with precision and expertise.

Reflecting on his journey, Andrew’s colleagues recall his hands-on approach, his sense of humour, and his commitment to the company. As he transitions into retirement, Andrew looks forward to enjoying more time in Spain, soaking up the sun, probably with a cerveza in hand!

A heartwarming charity inittaive for christmas

When Shield Services Group reached out with an urgent Christmas lighting request, we were delighted to step in and make Christmas sparkle. The task? Transforming scaffolding surrounding the historic Bristol Royal Infirmary building into a dazzling display of Christmas lights for charity – all within a matter of days.

About the project

The installation, opposite Bristol Children’s Hospital, is a heartwarming collaboration with Sheild Service Group and Field and Lawn for the Wallace and Gromit Grand Appeal and the official Bristol Children’s Hospital charity, aiming to bring joy to the local community during the festive season.

Standing at an impressive 18 meters high and spanning a remarkable 2,366m², the scaffolding presented a unique challenge. But thanks to our team’s installation expertise and determination, the lights were installed just in time for the grand unveiling on Sunday 1st December, celebrated with a special opening ceremony attended by the charity and local press.

We provided and installed over 60 festive decorations to illuminate the scaffold over the festive period, with the aim of bringing some cheer. We provided the decorations as a charitable gift. The initiative encourages residences and businesses alike to raise money and awareness for the charity by displaying Christmas lights and becoming a part of the light trail.

Local legend and ex Bristol Rovers manager Ian Holloway came to switch on the lights, where crowds gathered to admire the charitable collaboration. Our very own Bristol Rovers super-fan and Rigger Jenson Sutherland was on hand to supervise and shake hands with the man himself!

We are proud to have contributed to this project for a great cause, brightening the season for the children, families, and visitors in Bristol. It’s another shining example of how festive lighting can light up not only spaces but also hearts and communities.

Why festive Lighting Shouldn’t Be Just for Christmas

Celebrate TOGETHER

As we continue our festive lighting installations across towns, city and shopping centres across the UK, excitement and anticipation is building. It’s clear that Christmas lights have a unique ability to transform spaces, draw crowds and enhance the festive atmosphere.

Traditionally, festive lighting has been synonymous with Christmas, illuminating our streets with captivating displays during the winter months and the peak shopping season. But what if we could embrace festive lighting beyond Christmas? Sales Manager, Ali, shares his thoughts on how Ramadan lighting and celebrating other cultural events through festive lighting can bring communities together throughout the year.

Festive lighting beyond christmas

Lighting and illuminations are regularly used to create a sense of wonder beyond Christmas. Examples include immersive winter lighting trails, Halloween and other celebrations such as Valentines Day. However the concept of using lighting to celebrate other festivals is relatively new in the UK.

As our communities grow more diverse, it is time to broaden our view and recognise the importance of festive lighting for other celebrations. Ramadan, for instance, is a significant month for Muslims worldwide, marked by reflection, community, and charity.

Although traditionally not associated with the same kind of lighting displays as Christmas, there’s a growing interest in creating vibrant Ramadan lighting schemes that can bring communities together.

There is no better evidence of this than from our recent Ramadan lighting installations in London. The displays racked up over 19,000,000 views on social media and a quick YouTube search shows the positive reaction from all parts of the community.

My thoughts

As a British Muslim it was amazing to see the Ramadan lighting display in central London. It marked the arrival of a very special month and undoubtably helped to spread joy and togetherness.
The use of light during Ramadan, particularly in the evening, aligns with the culture of gathering for iftar meals after sunset, allowing the lighting to enhance the atmosphere and serve as a visual representation of the community’s energy and spirit.

Of course, there was debate and discussion around the display and that’s healthy. It was the first time a display of this scale and size has ever been delivered in the UK so, to some degree it was also expected. The overall feedback was overwhelmingly positive and the additional footfall it brought to the area was a welcome boost in March.

Inclusivity

Festive lighting is about more than just decoration; it’s about making people feel welcome and included. By using lighting and illumination for a variety of celebrations, we show that we recognise and appreciate the diversity within our communities.
Another great example of this is our recent lighting installation that reflects the Indian heritage of renowned artist, Chila Kumari Singh Burman MBE.

The scheme is an immersive lighting trail featuring 14 bespoke neon elements, depicting radiant representations of Indian deities like Laxmi and Ganesh. The installation launched in October ahead of Diwali as part of the award winning cultural programme, Art After Dark.

Value for money and sustainability

We know that any lighting installation needs to offer versatility, value and excellent sustainability. We have the solution to achieve this. Our creative team can design a display that uses existing lighting infrastructure, with highly sustainable materials and energy efficient LEDs. The beauty of festive lighting is that it can transcend cultural boundaries, evoking a shared sense of joy and connection.

Final thoughts

It’s not about taking away from the Christmas experience but rather, embracing the wide range of other celebrations that are meaningful to different cultural and religious groups throughout the year.

Ramadan lighting, Diwali displays, and other celebrations through the year can bring people together, boost local economies, and enable everyone to celebrate the rich and diverse tapestry of our modern communities. As we light up our cities this festive season, let’s remember that the true power of lighting lies in its ability to unite and captivate us all, giving us a moment of escape and enjoyment no matter the celebration or occasion.

Transforming Cambridge City Centre for Christmas

Christmas lighting transforms Cambridge

Cambridge is a bustling city with a unique and eclectic retail offer. Our creative experts worked collaboratively with the Business Improvement District to design, manufacture and install a unique Christmas lighting display covering twenty key streets across the city for Christmas. This is the sixth consecutive year we have delivered the contract. Take a look at how we bring the magic for Christmas…

Festive lighting features

The town centre Christmas lighting scheme included a mix of features, the highlights included:

53 dazzling crossings including glitterballs, shooting stars and 6 bespoke branded crossings in Rose Crescent.
135 motifs, including lamp post and wall mounted features
799m of shop front icicle lighting
520m warm, vintage festoon lighting with beautiful teardrop bulbs
150m of tree lighting
1 giant 3.5m x 4.5 illuminated bauble walkthrough selfie spot next to the train station
1 feature, 5m high 3D LED colour changing Twinkly Christmas tree in the market square

We also developed a unique architectural façade lighting scheme that framed the Town Hall, providing a beautiful backdrop to the market square.

Design and concept

The festive lighting design ethos blended modern and traditional ques to draw footfall through the city centre. We developed detailed CGI imagery to assist the client with visualising the features in situ. Design revisions were accommodated through a collaborative process that delivered high impact, “wow factor” illuminations that had great daytime, early evening and night-time presence.

tHE STAR OF THE SHOW!

A key element of the scheme and focal point for the display was the provision of a 5m high 3D, LED colour changing Twinkly Christmas tree in the market square. The tree provided the perfect backdrop for lots of family friendly pictures and selfies. The display encouraged shoppers to linger and watch the tree magically change colour.

Installation

Our in-house installation team worked through the night for 13 nights to complete the installation. The scheme was snagged and handed over to the client two nights ahead of the formal activation. During the activation period, we provided a regular check on the scheme and a responsive call out process.

Effective project management was crucial, our team worked with multiple stakeholders including retail site managers, shop owners and high street rangers during the installation to keep disruption to a minimum

Sustainability

Field and Lawn are the only festive lighting supplier to hold carbon neutral accreditation. All decorations are provided with the latest LED lighting technology, reducing energy consumption by over 80% against more traditional methods. Recycled and recyclable materials were used in the display which helped to contribute to the sustainability of the scheme.

Beyond festive: placemaking

In addition to the festive lighting, we also worked with the BID to provide a summer placemaking activation. The bunting was installed at several locations across the town centre and used the festive lighting infrastructure, so the installation was quick and seamless. It certainly brightened up the high street with a sea of colour!

How can shopping centres and high streets capitalise on summer sporting events?

pLACEMAKING for major summer sporting events

Major summer sporting events inspire excitement across the country, these events offer retailers, shopping centres and high streets significant opportunities to drive consumer spending. This year there are two major global sporting events that will be the highlight of the sporting calendar year for many people.

This summer will provide a packed calendar of world class sporting events. Firstly EURO 2024 which will be hosted in Germany. The tournament is scheduled to take place between 14 June to the 14 July 2024. The group stage runs until 26 June, with the knockout stage beginning on 29 June.

The following month, the Olympic Games in Paris will capture the world’s attention between the 26^th July 2024 and 11^th August 2024. The Paralympic games, closely follows, starting on the 28^th August, running to the 8^th September 2024.

As these landmark events are hosted in Europe, the favourable time difference will mean some massive placemaking and city dressing opportunities. Our team of creatives have brought together some ideas to inspire. Read on to find out how you can get involved in the action!

Spruce up your shopping centre for summer sporting events

Fill open spaces with giant footballs which can be ceiling mounted or ground mounted. Using different heights will create a real spectacle. We can design and manufacture bespoke colours or include your shopping centre branding. Ground mounted inflatables can also make a fun, family friendly shopping centre feature. We can also manufacture bespoke illuminated football features, from balls, to boots, club and country crests and everything in between.

High streets and town centres

If you are looking to brighten up your high streets and support our athletes and Lions over summer. Illuminated ground mounted features and selfie spots are a perfect option. How about giant shimmering medals or sport features like illuminated athletes, cyclists and large trophies. While most events will be anticipated, we know that cycling and athletics are one of the most eagerly awaited Olympic sports. Our range reflects the most popular events:

Who topped the medal table in Tokyo?

You may have seen the golden letter boxes from the London Olympic Games. If your town has medal hopefuls, you can support them every step of the way with bespoke flags, or features. Did you know that out of England’s nine regions, London saw the most medallists in Tokyo, with 17 athletes out of the 52 who went to Tokyo. The North West (16 medallists) and the South East (15 medallist) closely followed.

Fan zones and spectator parks

Field and Lawn also supply large, clearspan marquees and event structures. These make ideal temporary fanzones and bar structures for outdoor events. One way to bring people together is to create a fanzone. If you are planning on screening the action, or simply need more covered space for your bar, a large open plan marquee can quickly increase your capacity. Our fanzone marquees can be installed on any surface and completed with bespoke branding.

Health, wellbeing and economic benefits

Major sporting events bring many benefits, following both events, it is anticipated that engagement in sport will increase. You can inspire your high street to get active and improve their health and wellbeing. Halloween illuminations for high streets and shopping centres

Our festive lighting experts can turn any event or occasion into a spectacular and immersive experience. This year, Halloween falls on Thursday 31^st October and it promises to be an important part of the retail calendar. With this in mind, our creative team have curated a range of commercial Halloween illuminations to entice shoppers during the season.

Spooky and spectacular selfie spots

Selfie spots are fun and engaging features that frame a photo. They are ideal for large shopping centres to create memorable experiences. Shoppers can engage with the features and take photos with friends and family. Our Halloween selfie spots feature themed decorations, and lighting effects adding excitement and fun to the shopping experience. Following the success of the first ever, large scale commercial Ramadan lighting display in the UK in 2023, Field and Lawn have delivered a brand new scheme for Ramadan 2024. Earlier this month, The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan attended the activation event in the West End. Here is a collection of stunning images from this years display:

About the 2024 Ramadan lights IN London

The new display, located in Coventry Street is titled “Sundail” and is inspired by the transition from dawn to dusk during Ramadan. It represents the fasting experience with radiant suns and moons, forming a visual timepiece. The design features beautiful geometric patterns and hanging stars, paying homage to Islamic art. Over 30000 sustainable lights will illuminate the skies between Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square.

Ramadan ground features and selfie spots

Another new addition to this years display is an enchanting ground mounted illuminated Ramadan decoration on Edgeware Road. Marble Arch London BID, in partnership with the The Portman Estate, have brought the first Ramadan light display to Edgware Road, installing an illuminated crescent moon ground mounted selfie spot at Nutford Place which will be in place until Wednesday 10 April.

The bespoke 2.9m tall light installation is a majestic walk-through experience, adorned with warm white LED lights and elegant gold insets. Emblazoned with the heartfelt message “Ramadan Mubarak,” symbolising blessings and goodwill. The display runs throughout Ramadan and will be illuminated each day between 6am-11pm. The feature is something that can be easily replicated in cities across the UK to spread the joy of Ramadan. It has created a wonderful selfie spot for people to come together and celebrate Ramadan.

Who's involved?

The Ramadan lights are a collaboration between many organisations. The lights are designed, manufactured and installed by Field and Lawn. The Oxford Street display is presented by AlgbraX. The Aziz Foundation is responsible for the Coventry Street display. The concept was founded by Aisha Desai of Ramadan Lights UK. Made possible by the Heart of London Business Alliance and Lantern London. With support from many more people who have worked hard behind the scenes to create the wonderful spectacle.
