Exiting new city centre christmas lighting scheme installed in Dundee
About the project
Dundee required an exciting new city centre christmas lighting scheme that would transform the area into a vibrant, eye-catching space. The goal was simple, make the heart of the city more inviting especially during the festive season, while giving residents and visitors a reason to stop, explore, and enjoy the atmosphere. The project aimed to highlight Dundee’s charm, bring more energy to the streets, and even give local businesses a boost by drawing in more foot traffic.
Pedestrian Crossings
29 pedestrian crossings were illuminated using a combination of warm white and cool white lighting, creating eye-catching and distinctive pedestrian zones. These crossings were strategically placed across 8 different streets within the City Centre.

Street Lighting
62 motifs were installed along the Nethergate, Murraygate, and High Street, aligning with the City’s colour scheme of warm white and cool white. These motifs added decorative elements to the street lighting, enhancing the overall visual impact.

Caird Hall illumination
8 wall mounts were installed with the City Square, a prominent City landmark. 10 of the columns on the Caird Hall were adorned with warm white lighting, further highlighting the building’s architectural features.

Christmas Tree and Dundee Sign:
A planted Christmas tree was illuminated with over 3,000 low-voltage LED lights and decorated with over 500 silver and gold baubles, creating a festive ambiance. The iconic “Dundee” sign was enhanced with 90 metre of warm white rope light, making it more visible and visually striking, particularly at night.

The results:
This comprehensive lighting project transformed the Dundee City Centre, creating a more inviting and visually appealing environment for residents and visitors. The use of warm and cool white lighting, combined with the strategic placement of decorative elements, resulted in a cohesive and aesthetically pleasing night time experience.
