Decorative Festoon lighting in focus

Loxton Walk is a new mixed-use destination in Marylebone, London, offering 27,200 sq. ft of premium retail, leisure and dining space. To enhance its character and create an inviting atmosphere after dark, Loxton Walk commissioned a bespoke festoon lighting solution.

Field and Lawn delivered a complete full turnkey service. Providing project management, full system design, layout planning, rigging consultation, specifying fixtures and fittings, on-site installation and production level programming to deliver a striking and engaging activation. Our in house team installed 223m of MaxiLED Globe Series festoon lighting, compromising of 378 globes carefully, overnight to minimise disruption to local businesses.

We prioritised sustainability throughout the project. The MaxiLED Globe series is Londons first Batcap festoon lighting product. The Batcap prevents upward light spill and directs lighting towards pedestrian level, reducing light pollution, protect the night sky and support urban biodiversity. Each RGBW LED consumes just 2.35W, using approximately 75% less electric than traditional festoon lighting, while delivering the same quality. As part of a wider scheme for Heart of London Business Alliance (HOLBA), Field & Lawn installed a large commercial lighting canopies across London’s Coventry Street, Cranbourn Street, Irving Street and Bear Street. A high-level suspended blanket of canopy lighting transforms these streets, creating a consistent and immersive atmosphere. Key considerations for decorative commercial lighting

When selecting the best performing lighting products for year-round commercial use, it is important for them to meet professional level standards.

Field & Lawn’s lighting products are IP68 rated and use the latest LED technology. Reducing energy levels by up to 80% compared to more traditional lighting methods, whilst also reducing maintenance and running costs over time.

Another consideration is, any features installed at ground level, or suspended less than 2.5m in the air should be low voltage. Domestic products wont provide the durability and scale required for professional standard displays. Additionally, factors such as wind needs to be carefully considered, especially for larger 3D features.

Where can commercial lighting be installed?

You can install commercial and retail lighting in almost any location, Field & Lawn offer a wide range of fixing options. You can install products as completely freestanding features, suspended at high level or installed at ground level.

When installing into or onto a building, an application for permission will be required from the asset owner and appropriate authority. Next, check the relevant power provision is in place. Commercial grade outdoor lights generally use a 16amp commando unit. Our team can install commando units if power infrastructure is not already in place. Field and Lawn can complete the power installation once permission has been secured prior to commencement.

Do I need to have specialist commercial lighting fixtures?

Yes, if you are planning on suspending large lighting features between or on buildings. Catenary wire is then used to suspend the product. Structural anchor points, specialist eye bolts and catenary wire are typically used to safely support the weight of the lighting installation. Additionally it also withstands environmental loads such as wind and weather.

We design commercial lighting installations to meet relevant safety standards, ensuring that buildings, mounting points and suspension systems are suitable for the loads. In many cases, a quick site survey with one of our specialist Project Managers will provide a top-level feasibility assessment, and to check your proposed location is suitable to install lighting. Importantly, Christmas lights can be designed as a year-round scheme to utilise existing fixtures and fittings, saving time and costs.

What IP ratings are required for commercial grade outdoor lighting?

An IP rating or Ingress Protection rating shows how effectively a lighting product resists dust and water ingress. For professional outdoor lighting, it determines whether a fitting can safely withstand the environmental conditions it will be exposed to. The higher the number, the more protected the lights are.
